PLANT CITY — Noelle Dietrich won her 13th game, pitching a complete game, and teammate Kacie Booth collected three hits and drove in three runs as Plant City upended Durant 6-2 in divisional play.
Plant City (17-4) took a 2-0 lead in the first when Rebecca Sorenson led off with a walk. Emily Register doubled her home, and Booth singled in the second run.
Durant (14-7) left the bases loaded in the first and second innings but pushed across two in the top of the fifth when the Cougars sent seven batters to the plate.
Payton Lewis led off the inning with a double to center, while Kelli Tidwell, Taylor Farrell, Selena Bezares and Sloan Hammons each singled with one out, leading to runs by Tidwell and Hammons.
The Cougars had the bases loaded and the game was tied, and they had momentum with one out, but an inning-ending double play crushed any hope of a lead.
Plant City came to bat in its half of the fifth and blew the game open with four runs to take a 6-2 lead.
Sorenson, Avery Brown, Register and Booth singled in succession, with Register driving in one and Booth two. Dietrich walked, and Alexis Williams singled before three batters were retired to end the inning.
Dietrich has 13 of the team’s 16 wins. While she is fourth in the league in strikeouts, first-year Plant City coach Maggie Feix said that while she doesn’t strike out a lot of batters, “she is very good at location and spin on the ball.”
Cougars freshman Hammons had 101 strikeouts coming into the game and collected three. She took the loss and is 9-4.
