With his parents behind him, Sgt. Michael Nicholson speaks about the home to be built by The Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation and the Gary Sinise Foundation.

Workers broke ground Thursday on a new home for Marine Sgt. Mike Nicholson, almost two years after he lost both legs and an arm to a bomb blast in Afghanistan.

Nicholson’s smart home is being built through the Building for America’s Bravest program, backed by the Tunnel to Towers Foundation and the Gary Sinise Foundation.

Sinise and the Lt. Dan Band will perform a benefit concert at 7 p.m. tonight at Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park. Tickets will be sold from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the park. To make a donation toward Nicholson’s house, visit www.TunneltoTowers.org or www.GarySiniseFoundation.org.
