ST. PETERSBURG — Raquel Ferreira of St. Petersburg lost in the quarterfinals Saturday of the AVP St. Pete Open, but she and teammate Kristen Batt of Venice remain alive in the double-elimination beach volleyball tournament.
A day after beating the top-seeded team in the women’s bracket, eighth-seeded Ferreira and Batt fell to No. 4 Lauren Fendrick and Brittany Hochevar, 21-17, 21-14. Ferreira and Batt were sent to the contenders’ bracket and will play a 10 a.m. match today against three-time Olympic gold medalist Kerri Walsh Jennings and partner Whitney Pavlik, seeded second.
The winner of that match will advance to a 2:05 p.m. semifinal against seventh-seeded Emily Day and Summer Ross. Fendrick and Hochevar secured a spot in the other semifinal.
Top-seeded Jen Kessy and April Ross, the 2012 Olympic silver medalists, play at 10 a.m. today for a berth in the semifinals.
