Closings during the Republican National Convention
City of Tampa Government offices: City government offices will remain open downtown during the Republican National Convention. Call (813) 272-5900. Libraries: The John F. Germany Public Library and Robert W. Saunders Sr. Public Library will be closed through Friday. Book drops will be unavailable. Patrons and visitors are encouraged to use other Hillsborough County public libraries during this time. For information, call (813) 273-3652. Garbage collection: The City of Tampa will continue collection and recycling services to most residents and businesses as scheduled. The collection time might be adjusted depending on your location and proximity to the events associated with the RNC. If you wish to increase the frequency of your collection during the week of the RNC, call (813) 348-1111, option 2.Due to an expected increase in the volume of garbage, Ybor City bulk accounts will be serviced daily through Friday. A special afternoon pick-up will be scheduled as needed. Call (813) 272-5680. Schools: Sam Rampello Downtown Partnership and Channelside Academy of math and Science are closed the week of the RNC. Students riding some school buses will have to pass through security checkpoints during the RNC. Public transportation: Hillsborough Area Regional Transit Authority plans to operate all routes and services during the RNC. The TECO Line Streetcar will provide service only between Station 1 (Centennial Park Station, at Eighth Avenue and 20th Street) to Station 8 (The Tampa Tribune Station at Channelside Drive and Meridian Avenue) during the RNC. Stations 9, 10 and 11 will be closed through Friday. Service resumes Saturday. The streetcar will operate extended service until 1 a.m., Monday through Friday. Madison St.; 513 E. Jackson St.; 201 E. Polk St.; 700 E. Twiggs; 101 S. Ashley Drive; and 601 E. Kennedy Blvd. during the RNC. The boxes will return the week of Sept. 2. People who normally would use collection boxes at those locations may bring mail to the Post Office at 401 N. Ashley Drive. Also, the mail drop inside the lobby at 401 N. Ashley temporarily is sealed. Call 1-800-ASK-USPS.Tampa Federal Courthouse: The Sam M. Gibbons federal courthouse will be closed during the RNC.
