Video: Women in Indiana narrowly escape death on train tracks

Two women in Indiana escaped death after getting caught on an 80-foot high rail bridge with a moving train bearing down on them.

The women trespassed onto a 500-foot-long bridge over Lake Lemon, about 10 miles northeast of Bloomington, according to WXIN-TV in Indianapolis.

As the 30-mph train emerged around a curve with its horn blaring repeatedly, the women had nowhere to go.

The 14,000-ton train slowed some but still gained on the women. Seemingly out of options, they laid on the tracks. There was about 10 inches of space below the tracks, and the train rolled over them without injury.

A train camera caught it all, and the video was released Tuesday by the Indiana Rail Road Co.

The engineer assumed the women were killed and notified authorities, the Star reported. Instead, the women escaped to a nearby vehicle and fled, the railroad company said.

The women have been identified by authorities and the incident is under investigation.
