St. Pete firefighters rescue ducklings from storm drain
Last week, St. Petersburg firefighters helped a cat with a Doritos bag stuck on its head get down from a light pole. Today, they rescued a flock of feathered friends when a firefighter climbed into a storm drain to save nine ducklings. A passerby saw a duck standing over the drain behind Old Navy at Tyrone Square Mall, quacking loudly. When he looked into the drain, he saw the ducklings and called firefighters.Acting Lt. Tom Kras and firefighters Greg Valdes and Ted Johnson removed the drain cover. Johnson climbed into the drain and began scooping up the ducklings. They were harder to catch than anticipated, Kras said. Once back on level ground, the ducklings ran for their mother, he said.
