Maine team calls off ballgame because of cold

PORTLAND, Maine — A minor league team in Maine has canceled a game because of cold weather for the first time in club history. With the temperature at 36 degrees, and gusty winds making it feel like 26 degrees, the Double-A Portland Sea Dogs called off their Eastern League game Saturday afternoon against the Trenton Thunder. The official reason cited was “unplayable field conditions.” Team spokesman Chris Cameron says the ground froze solid overnight and was slow to thaw out. The Sea Dogs, a Boston Red Sox affiliate, will make up the game with a July 2 doubleheader. They are counting on warmer weather when the teams meet Sunday.
Trenton's parent club is the New York Yankees.
