Funeral held for slain Jacksonville 8-year-old
JACKSONVILLE - Hundreds of people have mourned the 8-year-old Florida girl who police say was killed by a convicted sex offender who lured her family with promises of clothes and food. Services for Cherish Perrywinkle were held today at Paxon Revival Center Church in Jacksonville. Pastor Steve Dobbs not only tried to bring a message of comfort, but also urged people not to let the girl's death be in vain. The man who is charged with killing Cherish, Donald Smith, is a convicted sex offender and had been released from prison less than a month before Cherish's death. Dobbs says the law should be changed to ensure people like Smith aren't allowed to "walk free."
