Val’s Home Décor started out with a single booth at the Oldsmar Flea Market, selling baskets and handcrafted items. Today the family business occupies a warehouse-size building in Carrollwood, at 3920 Gunn Highway, that once was home to an 84 Lumber outlet.
While Val’s Home Décor still sells a variety of baskets, the inventory has expanded considerably, according to Brittany Harding, manager.
“We have a wide variety of different home décor items, from patio furniture and clay pots for outdoors, (to) wall art, containers for indoors, silk flowers, glass items and silk trees,” Harding says. “What makes us different from other home décor stores is our large selection and the large quantities we carry of each item.”
Another aspect of Val’s Home Décor that Harding says makes the store different from other home décor shops is an on-site floral designer. The vast array of vases and silk flowers at Val’s are among the most popular items the store carries, and the floral designer can turn customers’ silk flower purchases into professional arrangements, or create eye-catching centerpieces.
Customers can find colorful wall pieces from canvas art of all sizes to wood pieces and metal art that reflect a traditional country home look, nautical themes or sleek contemporary styles.
“We pretty much have anything you would want to put on a wall, including art, sconces and candle holders,” Harding adds.
Trunks, lanterns, table top statuary, outdoor decor, garden accessories, kitchen decor, accent furniture and candles are just some of the home decorating items on sale at Val’s.
According to Harding, the prices at Val’s are competitive, and that keeps customers coming back and referring their friends.
“We like to say that we buy directly from the manufacturers to guarantee the best price and quality,” Harding says. “We import products directly and we work with large importers to be able to bring in a large selection of products from all around the world. We try to keep prices as low as possible so you won’t need coupons to find bargains at our store.”
Currently, one area of the store is awash in patriotic red, white and blue items for customers to purchase for Independence Day celebrations. Harding says the inventory is always changing to reflect the season or upcoming holidays.
“We carry items for pretty much every season and holiday. Christmas is definitely our biggest season, followed closely by fall and Halloween,” Harding says. “For Christmas, the store turns into what we call a winter wonderland. We’ll have a number of display trees to give customers ideas on how to decorate their Christmas trees, and a whole section of our store will be given over to just Christmas decorations.”
While the inventory at Val’s Home Décor may change frequently, Harding insists that one thing stays constant: “We have a very friendly staff that is happy to help with any of our customers’ decorating questions or needs.”
