A woman suffering a diabetic episode while driving Sunday in Manatee County hit a pedestrian in her wheelchair, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Denese Perry, 51, of Bradenton, was taken to Blake Medical Center in critical condition.
About 3:45 p.m., Linda Burns, 63, also of Bradenton, was driving her 2008 Chevrolet Impala east on 57th Avenue East, just east of County Road 683 in Bradenton.
Burns was approaching a gate at the end of the street when she began to have a diabetic episode, according to troopers. She lost consciousness while driving, and collided with the gate.
Burns’ car went through the gate and struck Perry, whose wheelchair was positioned just beyond the gate, troopers said.
